IAE surpasses milestone delivery: 5,000th V2500 delivered to SilkAir

5000th V2500 engine delivered to SilkAir

SINGAPORE AIR SHOW (February 14, 2012) – As the third largest commercial engine program in the history of aviation, International Aero Engines’ V2500 has reached a production milestone – 5,000 engines delivered.

The 5,000th engine was delivered to be under the wing of an Airbus A320 aircraft for SilkAir of Singapore in a ceremony that took place in mid-January at IAE facilities in Dahlewitz, Germany. The aircraft will be delivered to SilkAir of Singapore in March.

“Our fleet of engines continues to grow exponentially due to its superior fuel burn, as well as our history of sustained improvements in the engine,” said IAE Executive Vice President of Customer Business Jim Guiliano. “IAE employees – as well as those from our party companies – take great pride in the V2500. This is reflected in the results they achieve.”

SilkAir currently has 19 A320 family aircraft powered by V2500 engines. These include six A319s and 13 A320s. The airline serves cities in India, Indonesia, China and other major population centers in Southeast Asia.

“We have been operating the V2500 for 13 successful years. The reliability and fuel efficiency of the engine have played an integral role in SilkAir's success and growth as a leading regional carrier. We are proud to celebrate this special milestone with our partners at IAE,” said Marvin Tan, chief executive officer at SilkAir.

IAE’s first engine delivery was to Cyprus Airways in 1989. Other high-visibility global milestone customers include JetBlue, which accepted the 2000th engine in November 2002, and TAM, which received the 4000th V2500 in August 2009.

IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise of Pratt & Whitney (NYSE: UTX), Rolls-Royce (RR.L.), Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. Through 2011, over 4,900 V2500 engines have been delivered and nearly 2,000 more engines on order with close to 200 customers around the world.
